The Aigüestortes and Saint Maurici Lake National Park is one of the lungs of the Pyrenees of Lleida and the only National Park in Catalonia. It is located in the north of Lleida between the counties of Pallars Sobirà and the Alta Ribagorça.
It has an extension of 14.119 hectares and was declared a National Park in 1995. Moreover, it is part of the Special Protected Zone for Birds (ZEPA) and also the Important Wetlands International. The Portarró de Espot pass, at a height of 2.400 meters, joins these two sectors.
The lands of the National Park were formed in the Paleozoic era and established on a bed slate and granite. It has landscapes of great beauty such as the Colomers Couloir, the Mata of València dÀneu, the Cabdella lakes and the Encantados mountains.
